(Aug. 26 report below) Report by Truls Gulowsen Source: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ETList/message/3901 Tuesday, August 24, 2004 Over for Day One with Ford and Think EV's here, thanks to the great preceding efforts on the Californian side, over to you for next round. Thanks for posting the story at greenpeace.org, and ALL, please help push the cyberactivity... It has been an overwhelming experience and an extreme media coverage; all over the national press but also Reuters, AP, APF, Financial Times and some US networks has also called in. And all this for a banner on a boring building and a few activists with leaflets, supported by 18 private EV-drivers.... Ford Norway collapsed early, the Head claimed he had no knowledge of the issue and waited, full of stupid excuses to why Ford has not replied to the Transport Minister nor to Elbil Norges offer. After hectic contacts on Fords highest European levels, they finally committed to arrange a meeting between Greenpeace and Ford Europe, represented with Head of European Sales Ingvar Sviggum, and Vice President for European Communications, Neil Goliathely, TOMORROW WEDNESDAY. Time is under negotiation, as they also will meet the Norwegian Transport Minister. Expected outcome is that they will. With these achievements, which was our demands for day one, we ended the day and prepare for tomorrow. Kristin explained that you are demanding similar meeting between the US side of the Th!nk alliance and Ford USA. This is excellent. It seems very clear that all real decision power lays in the USA. I have posted a few more images to John Novis (GPI) and Kristing and Jennifer. Please use for all it is worth... We win this. RESOURCES: The Offer from Elbil Norge, which covers all excuses Ford has presented so A backgrounder on the EV story and the auto-industry's undermining of the We win this....... please call for more information. Ford ReconsideringAug. 26, 2004 SAN FRANCISCO Following three days of grassroots pressure this week in
San Francisco and Oslo, Ford Motor Company has committed to reconsider the
fate of its Th!nk all-electric, zero emission vehicles, the most efficient cars
in its fleet. The company says that it will respond by September 15, 2004.
Global Exchange, Greenpeace and Rainforest Action Network followed up by sending
a letter to Ford CEO Bill Ford, Jr. calling on him to live up to his
environmentalist image, scrap plans to crush its U.S. fleet of Th!nk EVs and
accept a purchase offer from Norwegian automaker Elbil Norge. Human rights and
environmental leaders requested that Ford meet immediately with concerned
citizens to map out an environmental recovery plan that will end the
automakers five year oil binge and put it on the road to a zero emissions
future. Source: Press Release from Paul West of Rainforest Action Network. See also
