NORWICH, Conn. -- Norwich police are investigating the killing of a science
writer from Pembroke, New Hampshire who championed cold fusion.
The body of Dr. Eugene Mallove was found late Friday at a house in Norwich owned by his family. Mallove, 56, died of injuries to his head and neck. The medical examiner has ruled his death a homicide. Police said initial evidence indicates Mallove may have been assaulted during a robbery. Several items and his minivan were missing. The minivan was found early yesterday at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket. Mallove, the former chief science writer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, wrote several books, including one on cold fusion that was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. He was president of the Concord-based New Energy Foundation and editor of its magazine, "Infinite Energy."
