Tool for making such simulations: http://fdp.nu/drawwheel.htm Comment: "although my whole web site is hosted, this wheel simulation is running on a desktop at home since I am not allowed to run COM-objects at my web hotel. I have no idea if the computer can handle that number of users but the software can, all simulations are user unique" (Eric, Jan 7, 2004)

The strong part in the 'Draw the
Wheel'-application is handling the difficult part in the Minato wheel, and
that is the math: the magnets are drawn in an exact spiral, distance between
magnets and the edge of the wheel is smoothly adjusted. Counterweights are
drawn at the right spot. And the drawing can be made scale 1:1. The flux
simulation is a 'nice looking thing' and rather okay since the wheel is not so
very 3D. The flux simulation engine is FEMM and FEMM is a typical 2D
application, thus working fine for the Minato wheel.
The math in the Bowman is very simple. No
calculation program is needed for that. But since the magnets are on different
layers, the model is highly 3D. This is no good for FEMM. And since the flux
simulation is just a 'nice to have' thing (it will not show if a PM is working
or not) I don't think it is worth the big job that has to be started from
scratch. But, of course, it is possible.
Eric.
