Bowman Magnet Motor Open Sourcing Project

Status: Project commenced Dec. 2003 with claim to a working device, which later, after three months, ended up running down due to demagnetization.  No replications were accomplished though several were attempted.

Chop Saw and Drill With Sander

To cut rotors, I used a thin magic marker to draw the circle.  Then used a chop-saw to rough cut a polygon.  Then drilled the center, mounted a mandrel typically used to hold a wheel in a drill chuck.  Then chucked it onto my large drill press and sanded the edge concentric.  Quick and dirty, eh?

Using RotoZip to cut out pieces

Hi All

This weekend I did a test using RotoZip and using Sabercut zip bit ZBSC5 and tried it on Lucite. I cut it very easy and did not have any problems. Getting the CRCT2 circle cutter jig and you can cut 1" to 20" very easy. This is what I am going to use.  Go to www.rotozip.com for more info. I was thinking of using Lucite and glue to circles together to make 1/2 thick. Any negative about using Lucite.

Hi All

For those who don't have Rotozip, here is another way. Get Dremel tool,
P/N #9000-04 Advantage Rotary Saw
P/N #9011 blade bit
P/N #960-01 Advantage Circle Cutter Attachment 1-19"

I have not tested the unit, but it almost the same motor 4.5amps and should have more than enough power. I would not use any motor smaller than this. Here is the link  http://www.dremel.com/html/home_fr.html

Lexan Polish and Scratch Remover

For any of you using Lexan for you Unit rotors and base. If you want to try to clean the Lexan up after cutting and drilling, these are 3 polishes that could do the trick. You will probably have to first get the big cut marks worked down with fine wet/dry sand paper first before using these polishes..

If anyone knows of another way to do this, let me know. I have heard of "fire glasing" but don't know anything about it. [...]
