Status: Project commenced Dec. 2003 with claim to a working device, which later, after three months, ended up running down due to demagnetization. No replications were accomplished though several were attempted.

Flux Line Direction Indicator

One other device that would be useful is a flux line direction indicator. It's easy to make with a small magnet glued to the middle of a short piece of thread. Suspend magnet near by, and it will tell you the polarity and angle of the local field. It's like a 3-D compass.
