Bowman Magnet Motor Open Sourcing Project

Status: Project commenced Dec. 2003 with claim to a working device, which later, after three months, ended up running down due to demagnetization.  No replications were accomplished though several were attempted.

See Vogels' proposed Belt Mechanism instead of using gears.  Mann agrees this is a good idea.

The following idea was scrapped for now, with plan instead to use whole magnets.  But someone should try this in the future.
"I plan to make my rods from stacked NEO discs, 1/2" dia, 1/8 thick Grade N40.  Since I use 12-14 magnets per rod I figured that it must be possible to get rods wit the same strength."

Doug Mann response: "Stacking magnets to get to the ratio? I have not done this, but the the Actuator will need to be wider than the steps of the stack. Hay it may work better, it has some of the factor of the TOMI.( This is true off the shelf )"

Hello Sterling.

I did not build the Mikell device [ref] as it is described but I tested with a 2 dimensional model, without success. But via Mikell and HJ I came to Bowman and I collected the few documents that are available about Bowman a few weeks ago and have gear wheels on the way in. I would very much like to make a replication.

Regards, Eric.

Hi again.

I'm very interested in this device and want to try it. I'm willing to put the completed device on public display but I would like it on my own site ( http://fdp.nu ) as well, when ready and running.

Eric.
