Bowman Magnet Motor Open Sourcing Project

Status: Project commenced Dec. 2003 with Doug Mann's claim to a working device, which ended up running down due to demagnetization after three months of continuous running.  Robert Calloway also claims to have accomplished rotation.  Several other replications were made, but none of those achieved running mode.  On July 31, 2005, the son of Lee Bowman contacted us.  See report.

Lee Bowman Permanent Magnet Motor

I have looked at this design for several years at different times with not much interest.

One day I printed the design drawing and decided to study it more closely. After 2 or 3 weeks of trying to figure out how it could .work, I got it. This is a hidden jewel. I am confident that I can make this design work. In fact 1 have ordered the gears and supports for the shafts to try and replicate this motor. It will not be so easy though as balance between magnetic flux rules here. This motor is balanced magnetically perfect. In any position you would turn the (3) disks there would be no resistance whatsoever, if built correctly. In fact balance and a need to remain balanced is what drives this motor. The world we live in is a nature of balance. If we push a object it requires work in that push to do so. The object in our world is balanced by just sitting there waiting on us to push it. When we push it, it now is unbalanced. This design of motor is a balance inside of a balance of the nature of the world we live in. It is not affected by anything but magnetic flux forces. It is perfectly magnetically balanced. If a magnet were place at the lower quadrant of the center disk, a unbalance would be sensed in this motor. Needing to keep its balance the motor would turn to try and retain its balance. But it would be chasing its own tail. So it would continue to turn.

So balance or a need to be balanced is what makes the motor turn, just like nature of the world we live in. If we have a piece of wire and a magnet laying beside one of the other, they are balanced in this world. If we proceed to move the magnet across the wire a positive and a negative occur at the ends of the wire. This is unbalance. Nature will put up a endless fight of resistance to stop this to retrieve balance. In effect Lenz's law.

So in this motor design we do not perform any work to make the motor turn, all we do in effect is provide a unbalance to a perfectly magnetically balanced unit that seeks to retain its balance. In a summary it can be said that in this design we are using balance to do work. The faces of the rod magnets are not directly related to the balance of this motor. So we are not concerned about clearance of the rod magnet faces. This design was built using the sides or outside radius of the rod magnets to achieve the balance. This is why rod magnets were used instead of the disk type. When the (3) disks turn they will in effect be moving by the sides of the rod magnets at timed intervals to retain the motors balance. This movement will be repulsive between the magnets, but in a balanced form. A search of Lee Bowman motor will find you a drawing of this motor. When I have mine put together, I will post a picture of it to this website. I can also post a list of all parts that I will use to build mine if one wishes. This does not conclude that it will work using those parts until I have success building this motor.

Magnet engines that use their static flux fields to rotate themselves are simply remarkable. It is a sight once seen that is unforgettable. Most folks will tell you that it simply cannot be done. These folks do not understand the underlying principles that must be mastered to achieve this. Let me first say that I am a very private individual. I know what massive changes will occur when a person or persons come forward publicly with a working engine. I simply do not wish to be involved in any part of it. I like my life the way it is.  If you achieve in the making of a working magnet engine, consider the rewards and the troubles because they will come packaged together. Many have built a Minato style motor and cant seem to get it to work. They say it goes in, but wont go out or vice versa. First of all, lets go back to the very basics. What is the flux field that you are dealing with? It is a STATIC field. Never forget that. Static means basically, a force field with no movement. Well, you want your wheel to turn continuously using a field with no movement? IMPOSSIBLE. It will never happen. Rethink your setup. The primary magnet must be able to move. Electric magnets switch their flux fields off and on to make a wheel turn. You must mimic this as a gate switch using a static field. Simply allow your primary magnet to move when you wish it to do so. I have said before and will say again that you cannot build what you cannot see. Build a glass or Plexiglas tray with metal filings in it to see the flux fields. Allowing your primary magnet to move means that your initial static field must create more movement in work to get it to the next position.  In other words it must create enough force to move the primary magnet and the wheel.

 It's there, just keep trying, but understand what your doing. Again, if you succeed that is great. Patent it if you can....tell and show the world if you wish.  But leave me out of it, I want nothing.     Robert H. Calloway

Folks, Sorry for the absence, but I have been busy with the Bowman design. I have finally figured out how he did it.


I need (3) folks [...]. I offer you a guaranteed working replication of the Bowman design or I will pay for the parts you invested to build it.

The Bowman is simple and straight forward. Just purchase the same parts that I have used and get ready to put it together. The disks will have to be made at a machine shop. I had (2) sets built for 200.00 dollars. Your price may vary on that. The magnets are neodymium 35's, about 5 bucks apiece.

Myself, I don't care what stuff cost. If I believe in the design, I build it without worrying about price.

This is how a good working design gets shortcuts. So, what have you (3) folks got to lose?

TIME. If you cannot make it work according to my instructions, you get paid back for your parts.

You will probably be willing to pay me once you see your engine run. But, I want nothing.

This is the only place on the web that offers you a working design. Resend this email any where you wish, all builders are welcome as more engines will be running. But they must join this group.

You will find the truth [...]. You must be committed.
