Bowman Magnet Motor Open Sourcing Project

Status: Project commenced Dec. 2003 with claim to a working device, which later, after three months, ended up running down due to demagnetization.  No replications were accomplished though several were attempted.

[...] I just picked up a Lakeshore 410 Gauss meter yesterday that can measure up to 20k gauss. You can check out the specs of the device here [shown at right]. I would be willing to characterize magnets for anyone in the group and provide a print out with all values. I believe this is one of the other important parts of our effort is to scientifically approach each step and document it. The type of magnet is important as I have been talking to All Magnetics in Anaheim and they tell me that Neo 32 is not as common as Neo 35 and can cost more. I have also been told that we can get very reasonable prices for custom magnets ground to our exact size for reasonable quantities. There is a minimum charge of  $150. I don't mind ordering a batch of magnets and selling off magnets to the group at cost along with characterization data. For that matter we could get a couple of different types of magnets for experimentation. So if we can come up with a plan for magnets, I would be willing to go forward with the order if others are willing to sign up for a share of the magnets. I believe the first step in establishing the magnet plan is to characterize the magnets that have worked so far and use that as the baseline. I have been concerned that everyone is out using different uncharacterized magnets and that could cause variations in results if not just pure frustration.
