Ken Hegemann's MXLO Magnetic Motor replicationMXLO Magnet Motor Open Sourcing Project

Summary: This open sourcing project sponsored by Pure Energy Systems, based on a design by MXLO, commenced Mar. 3, 2004 and was active for about a month.  At least 14 (8 verified) replications were built, none of which worked, proving that MXLO plans are neither easy nor complete, contrary to what they insinuate on their site, which now redirects to the U.S. government's renewable energy site. On July 10, a hint about shielding was given that was not contained in the plans.

Tips for Printing Templates to Size

Subject: [pes_mxlo] Re: Let's Define Template Instructions Clearly

About printing templates to size.

In the mean time... To get exact sized images.  Take the 'photograph' (JPG or what ever) into photoshop or any photo editor.  For the stator.  Cut away/delete/crop everything outside the black line denoting the outer edge of the template, very close.  Now you have only the black outerline and the interior of the template.  Most printers print at 300 DPI (dots per inch).  So, resize the overall photo size to 10 inches by 3 inches at 300 DPI.  A large file.  In pixels that is 3000 x 900 pixels.  Once resized, it should print almost exactly.  If it is way off like 1/2 sized, check that your printer driver is set to print at 300 DPI.  If can only be set to 600 DPI, then double all the above numbers.  Hopefully this short if not cryptic explanation will help some people.  It makes a huge file but it will get you by.

I will be glad to include and even produce good versions of these files when I rewrite the instructions as I mentioned previously.  Assuming I get the device to work next week or next weekend.  And I will run the whole thing thru MXLO.  I am willing to work with any others on reviewing the all inclusive instruction file as well.

Scale it to exactly 10"x3" inches to the outer black outline on the templates

Some minor points, MXLO got theirs working on the templates they
supplied,  As far as 'size', I say scale it to exactly 10"x3" inches
to the outer black outline on the templates.  The size errors are
solely due to different printers and conversion of files, I saw this
in my two methods of working with the files.  The rations of spacings
are 'relative', so I trust it.

Template Dimensions from MXLO: Stator = 10" x 3"; Rotor = 4" x 1.5"

I have received an e-mail from mxlo:

"When the template is printed the outer black frame of the template
should be sized to 10 X 4"

I responded to them to verify 'four' inches.

They immediately responded:

"No that is incorrect.

10 inches by 3 inches on the stator strips.

4 inches by 1-1/2 inch on the rotor.

Placement of magnets for both is in the upright order as shown on template.  The N, or S, should appear thru center of the ring magnet."

Free ems Software for CAD files

For those who have asked; I haven't had a chance to examine
the template discrepancies.  I would recommend that you
download the nice (and free) CAD software from

http://emachineshop.com

and make a simple square of known dimensions and then see
for yourself with your own printer how you need to set it
up to print out life-sized dimensions.
